The Vial Tablet is shipped to sites for direct data capture in the EDC, with some other functions depending on the study you are conducting!
Accessing the Vial EDC from the Tablet
It is important to note that the Vial EDC is not a standalone application that needs to be downloaded to the device, it's a web application and uses a web browser to run.
The Home Screen of your tablet should only show a shortcut to the Vial EDC (platform.vial.com), the camera, and any other apps that are necessary for the study. The screenshot below is a good example of what you should expect to see when you turn on the tablet after the initial update.
Maintaining the Tablet
In order to avoid issues with the tablet device, please ensure the tablet is on, connected to the internet, and plugged in while not in use. This ensures any necessary updates take place and the device does not lose charge while you are conducting a visit.
Taking a Video for Study Purposes
If the study you are conducting requires a video upload from the tablet, Vial's recommendation is to capture the video directly from the EDC, and NOT recording the video on the camera app and uploading. This option is available if necessary due to connection issues, but should not be the primary approach.
Video procedures will show in the appropriate visit folders, simply click "Submit" or "New" next to the procedure and click the Record Video button as outlined in the Screenshot below.
Note: "New" will only show if a recording has already been saved to the procedure.
The video camera will open upon clicking "Record Video"
Click "Start Recording" to begin the video recording and click the stop button when the video is complete. The Tablet will ask if you'd like to download the video. This is not required but it is recommended. After downloading or exiting the download popup, click "Upload Footage" to save the procedure to the subject's visit. You can submit a comment as well before saving if needed.
